Chapter 4: Performing

In for performing stage, relationships between the team members are extremely developed compared to the previous stage, and there is also an overall knowledge of how each individual will communicate with each other. Trust and acceptance are high at this level, the team has a shared vision, can work independently and take little direction from the team leader (Venture). Team members will define their roles and accept other team members behaviors.

Performing stage involves a team which is like family. Bringing new members in will help create a diverse team which can be good and bad for a team. Team can become complacent, lack trust with one another which may cause them to withhold information, and have hidden agendas. These things and more can build walls instead of unity within a team.

During the performing stage, there is a sense of cohesion between the group because everyone is focused on meeting the goals of the group. This stage in a team is crucial for making the most ground in terms of successfully completing tasks. The role of leadership in this stage is to keep the momentum of the team going by making the team goals the number one priority, and address to the contract. To keep maximum production in the group, the leader can promote motivation to the team members.

There are three traditional ways to evaluate teams, they are individual evaluations, team member evaluations, and evaluations of the team To make the evaluation process fair each team member needs to know what is expected of them and have goals set in place, so that the evaluation can be measured accurately. You could also measure by behavioral and not just job performance. There are three different approaches for rewarding performance, they are individual, team, and organizational.

Some examples of high performing teams are Boise State Broncos game in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl Game when they played the Oklahoma Sooners. Other high performing teams are the LA Rams who are currently the number one team in the NFL, the Boston Redsox who won the 2018 MLB World Series, and the Golden State Warriors who won the from the 2018 NBA Championship. These teams have gone through each of the steps of teams multiple times and have been able to and be unified in a common cause to be successful

The role of organizational cultures is to dictate the beliefs, culture, and principles of all teams within a company. While the teams can create their own subculture that stems from the organization's culture, the organizational culture is the foundation for all team cultures. The biggest thing to keep in mind is individualism and collectivism. The cultures differ, most teams in America are built on Individualism but the teams in the east ware built up collectivism.
